The League of Women Voters of White Plains is working in concert with the city of White Plains, as a member of the Complete Count Committee, to educate citizens about the importance of completing their census surveys.

Did You Know...

  • Census Day is April 1, 2020.
  • The Census will be digital for the first time.
  • Census results help determine how billions of dollars in federal funding flow into states and communities each year.
  • The results determine how many seats in Congress each state gets.
  • It’s mandated by the U. S. Constitution:The U.S. has counted its population every 10 years since 1790.
  • By law, the Census Bureau cannot release any identifiable information about you, your home, or your business, even to law enforcement agencies. That’s protected under Title 13 of the U.S. Constitution.

Common Ground
Common Ground, the community conversation where participants can express their viewpoints and listen to different perspectives in a civic environment will continue in 2020.  The YWCA’s Courageous Conversations, the White Plains Public Library, and the White Plains League of Women Voter’s are collaborating in continuing the Common Ground Conversations.

The White Plains Common Council held its regular monthly meeting on January 6, 2020. The new councilmembers were sworn in, and Nadine Hunt-Robinson was chosen as council president.

November 2019

In the November 2019 Election, out of 34,948 registered voters in White Plains, 9,121 cast ballots resulting in a citywide rate of 26.1% registered voters participating.
