The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, multipurpose organization of women and men that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences policy through education and advocacy. The League does not support or oppose candidates or political parties. We do provide a forum where all candidates to an office can state their own positions.

                                                      Corona Virus Bulletin

Dear Friends and Members of the League of Women Voters,

As health concerns related to the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) grow, the League’s public outreach work will be affected as we all focus on the safety of our families and our communities. With that in mind, we urge everyone to monitor announcements from our State Department of Health and from the CDC in making decisions about hosting or attending public meetings and events.

Our local League leaders are working to develop plans for continuing our work in a time when social contact will be limited. League leaders will be reaching out to state and local election officials about their emergency preparedness plans for upcoming elections, they will continue to monitor developments and they will proactively communicate with members about any and all contingency plans that may be implemented for voter registration and for voting.

As our national League leaders have reminded us this week, this is a critical time in a busy election year…this virus could have a major impact on our ability to reach voters. When possible, we should encourage people to take advantage of early and absentee voting options by promoting how and where to vote early or by absentee ballot.

The League has a long history of keeping voters informed and prepared to exercise their fundamental right and responsibility as American citizens to choose our leaders and determine policies that govern our daily lives. Our work is more crucial than ever in these confusing and challenging circumstances. While our health care systems help us cope with this international health crisis, our electoral processes will carry on, and our work as the League of Women Voters must also carry on to ensure voters are registered and prepared to participate in the democratic life of our nation,

Be well,

Carol Andersen, Co-President
Christy Wheeler, Co-President
